As it lay there pleading

For the torturer to loosen his merciless grip

If the land had the choice

It would choose the stars that lay among us

The ones that would protect it

Know it was not to be abused

And hold them close to its heart

The land we know

Is our only known future

Holds our only known past

And would tell us

If land could speak

To take care of it, help it last

If we could listen

To our land that DOES speak

Even if it happens to be

So quietly that we must hold everything

To stop and listen to the whisper of a single tree

Then maybe we would stop destroying

The web that now lies so bleak

Stop destroying us
